Many people purchase a home with an existing pool, and often times, it is their first pool. Use this section to learn pool basics, such as equipment overview, general chemistry, preventative/weekly maintenance, general components and features.

Equipment Overview
The pool equipment starts with the pump. The pump is central to maintaining pool health. The pump is similar to a fan, it has a motor and a fan blade that are connected by a shaft. The motor spins the blade and air is pulled from one side and pushed out the other. A key difference is instead of a fan blade, an impeller is used. The impeller is a semi-hollow disc with fins channels leading from the center to the outer edges.

Uses electrolysis to separate chloride ions from Salt (sodium and chlorine) to produce chlorine.

Suction - Rear bottom port connected to pump with valve. Front port into pool (equalizer line to prevent low water level pump cavitation). Return - Uses a return to create a venturi to produce suction.

Suction - Line connected from drain canister(s) to pump with valve.

Suction/Return - Suction is a dedicated line typically center of pool. Return - Uses a jet to create a venturi suction.

A venturi is a phenomenon which happens when a liquid (water) enters a restriction. The water must accelerate to maintain flow rate so the pressure must drop through the restriction. A suction/vacuum effect is created in this high speed low pressure zone called a venturi.

A connection to the low pressure high velocity stream will introduce a lower pressure air or water source which will naturally get pulled in to the faster moving water.
